Workshop on CoETL held at UGC


A discussion meeting on the activities of Centre of Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CoETL) established in six public universities of the country was held today (28/01/2018) at UGC auditorium. University Grants Commission in association with British Council, Bangladesh organized the meeting to set the action plan, bring in dynamism and formulate strategic plan of Centre of Excellence in Teaching and Learning for enhancing the quality of tertiary education of Bangladesh. UGC Chairman Professor Abdul Mannan presided over the meeting. Professor Dr. Mohammad Yousuf Ali Mollah, Member, UGC also spoke on the occasion. The six universities are Dhaka University, Rajshahi University, Bangladesh Agricultural University, Chittagong University, Jahangir Nagar University and Khulna University.

Chief Consultant of British Council Mr. Hank Williams presented a key note paper in the programme. In his presentation, Mr. Hank Williams said that British Council initiated the CoETL development programme in 2014 for enhancing the quality of tertiary education and ensure teaching learning paradigms in all universities of Bangladesh.

He said that they want to set up a residential pedagogical or teachers training centers and establish teaching learning center in all universities of Bangladesh for ensuring quality education. “There is a need for a strategic plan to achieve these goals,” he added.

In his presidential speech, UGC Chairman Professor Abdul Mannan said that our biggest challenge is qualified teachers. Skills and professional training are highly needed to be a good teacher. CoETL will play a significant role to prduce qualified teachers in the country.

Professor Mollah in his address said that the activities of CoETL will go ahead if UGC monitor its activities.

Ali Akbar, Vice-Chancellor, Bangladesh Agricultural University, Professor Dr. Mohammad Fayek Uzzaman, Vice-Chancellor, Khulna University, Professor Dr. Sayed Saad Andaleeb, Vice-Chancellor, BRAC University, Professor Dr. Md. Golam Samdani Fakir, Vice-Chancellor, Green University Bangladesh, Professor Dr. Ananda Kumar Saha, Pro Vice-Chancellor, Rajshahi University, Professor Imran Rahman, Special Advisor to the Board of Trustees, ULAB and Dr. Md. Khaled, Secretary, UGC, among others were present.
