UGC Chairman delivers keynote speech on Victory Day in Kolkata

UGC Chairman Professor Abdul Mannan delivered the keynote speech this year in the Victory Day Celebration Programme on December 16th organized by the Deputy High Commission of Bangladesh in Kolkata. The programme included a five day Bijoy Utsab where pavilions were set up to display Bangladeshi Products. Held at the Netaji Indoor Stadium the five day programme was inaugurated on December 15, by the Chief Minister of Paschimbanga Mamata Banarjee while Bangladesh’s Minister of Industries Mr. Amir Hossain Amu, MP attended as the Chief Guest. The function was presided over Mr. Zokey Ahad, Bangladesh Deputy High Commissioner in Kolkata. The five day programme includes screening of documentary films on Bangladesh’s War of Liberation, Festivals of Bangladesh and Historical Monuments of Bangladesh. Cultural events were organized every day where Bangladeshi participants performed. On the Victory Day Professor Mannan in his keynote address narrated the events leading to Bangladesh’s War of Liberation, sacrifices and help made by the Government of India and its people and other friendly countries in 1971 alongside of the people of Bangladesh and contribution of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in the making of Bangladesh. Professor Mannan also emphasized the achievements of the present Government under the dynamic  leadership of the daughter of Bangabandhu, Sheikh. Hasina, in transforming Bangladesh in all fronts of Bangladesh. During his address and the cultural programme Netaji Indoor Stadium was packed with audience, both from India and Bangladesh.
