Eight universities signed agreement with UGC for setting up Fab Lab

Eight universities (seven public  and one private) signed agreement with the University Grants Commission of Bangladesh for setting up Fabrication Laboratory (Fab Lab) in their respective institutions to create innovative ideas among researchers, teachers and students. 

The agreement signing ceremony was held on 29 December 2016 at UGC auditorium. Professor Abdul Mannan, Chairman, UGC graced the ceremony as the Chief Guest. Professor Dr. Mohammad Yousuf Ali Mollah, Member, UGC presided over the function. Professor Dr. Dil Afroza Begum, Member, UGC and Dr. Gauranga Chandra Mohnta, ndc, Project Director (Additional Secretary), Higher Education Quality Enhancement Project (HEQEP) were the Special Guests. Dr. Md. Khaled, Secretary, UGC, signed the agreement on behalf of UGC. Mr. Sohel Ahmed, Deputy Project Director, HEQEP delivered the welcome address.

The universities which signed the agreement included Dhaka University, Bangladesh Agricultural University, Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology, Dhaka University of Engineering and Technology, Khulna University of Engineering and Technology, Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology and Independent University, Bangladesh.

Professor Mannan, in his speech said that the concept of Fab Lab is new in Bangladesh but it is being practiced in many countries of the world. Students, teachers and learners will be immensely benefitted by using Fab Lab. A new era will be opened in country’s higher education if the Fab Lab project is properly completed by the students, teachers and learners, he added.

Professor Yousuf Ali Mollah, in his presidential speech said that the objectives of Fab Lab are to promote the innovative capabilities of the youth force, popularize science education and carry the positive aspect of science, technology and innovation to the common people of Bangladesh.

Professor Dr. Kamal Uddin, Vice- Chancellor, Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Professor Dr. Omar Rahman, Vice-Chancellor, Independent University Bangladesh, Directors of Planning and Sub- Project Managers of the respective universities, among others were present on the occasion.
