ADB delegation calls on UGC Chairman
Asian Development Bank (ADB) has agreed to initiate a project in Bangladesh for the development of the ICT sector of the country to produce IT skilled manpower and also help the country build its digital capacity by 2017. ADB will assist the proposed project involving 250 million US Dollars. The project will end in 2022. The project will be implemented in Dhaka University, Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology, Jahangirnagar University, Jessore University of Science and Technology, Islamic University of Technology, East West University, Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology, BRAC University and Daffodil International University under the supervision of UGC.
A-three member ADB delegation led by Mr. Ryotaro Hayashi, Young Professional, Human and Social Development Division, South Asia Department, ADB held a meeting with the University Grants Commission of Bangladesh to discuss summary of the proposals sent by nine universities at UGC auditorium today (09.02.2017). The project will enhance and extend the scope of ICT sector of nine universities. Professor Abdul Mannan, Chairman, UGC, Professor Dr. Mohammad Yousuf Ali Mollah, Member, UGC, Professor Dr. Dil Afroza Begum, Member, UGC, Professor Dr. Md. Akhtar Hossain, Member, UGC and Professor Dr. M. Shah Nowaz Ali, Member Dr. Md. Akhtar Hossain, Member, UGC, Professor Dr. M. Shah Nowaz Ali, Member, UGC, among others, were present during the meeting.
The Chairman of UGC, in his speech urged the ADB to undertake feasibility study of the nine universities along with their project proposals. He said that the successful implementation of the project will play a significant role in human resource development, employment generation, ICT capacity building of universities and curriculum development.
