Eight universities to get Tk. 7 crore 41 lakh 50 thousand for establishing IQAC
Eight universities (two public and six private) will get Tk. 7 crore 41 lakh 50 thousand for establishing Institutional Quality Assurance cell (IQAC) in their respective universities under round four. The eight universities signed the agreement with UGC for establishment of IQAC at a ceremony held today (13.02.2017) at UGC auditorium.
Professor Abdul Mannan, Chairman, UGC was the Chief Guest on the occasion while Professor Dr. Mohammad Yousuf Ali Mollah, Member, UGC was present as Special Guest. Professor Dr. Mesbahuddin Ahmed, Head, Quality Assurance Unit, UGC delivered the welcome address. Mr. Sohel Ahmed, Deputy Project Director, Higher Education Quality Enhancement Project (HEQEP) presided over the ceremony. Dr. Md. Khaled, Secretary, UGC signed the agreement on behalf of UGC.
The universities which signed the agreement included Bangladesh Open University, Bangladesh University of Professionals, University of Development Alternative, Prime University, City University, University of Information Technology and Sciences, Bangladesh University of Business and Technology and Metropolitan University.
UGC Chairman, in his speech observed that the expansion of higher education in Bangladesh in recent past is satisfactory. Now the main challenge is to maintain quality education at tertiary level, he added. The establishment of Institutional Quality Assurance cell (IQAC) at university level will significantly contribute to the enhancement of quality at higher education, he hoped.
Professor Yousuf Ali Mollah observed that quality education at tertiary level needs to be ensured and enhanced to survive in this competitive world. He urged university authorities to take quality assurance culture seriously for quality enhancement at tertiary level education.
Vice-Chancellors of concerned public and private universities and Directors of Institutional Quality Assurance Cells and Officials from UGC, World Bank and HEQEP, among others were present on the occasion.
