ADB proposes to initiate project in Bangladesh involving 500 million US dollars for strenthening ICT of public universities

Asian Development Bank (ADB) has proposed to initiate a project in Bangladesh begining 2019-2020 Financial Year involving 500 million US dollars for strenthening public universities in areas of ICT and science technology.  The tenure of the proposed project is expected to be from five to seven years. The project will be implementated in three to five public universities in areas of information technology, high-tech agriculture, marine science, textiles, bio-medical science and other related areas. ADB and UGC will jointly select the universities.    

The interest was shown when a-three member delegation led by Mr. Sungsup Ra, Director, Human and Social Development Division, South Asia Depertment, ADB called on Professor Abdul Mannan, Chairman, UGC at the latter’s office recently (16.04.2017).

UGC Chairman termed the proposal by the delegation as very positive and said that the proposed project will help achieve the Millinium Development Goals of Bangladesh and imensly contribute to the capacity building of the universities. The University Grants Commission of Bangladesh will extend all necessary co-operations in implementation of the project, he added. 

Professor Dr. Mohammad Yousuf Ali Mollah, Member, UGC, Professor Dr. Dil Afroza Begum, Member, UGC, Professor Dr. Md. Akhtar Hossain, Member, UGC and Professor Dr. M. Shah Nowaz Ali, Member, UGC were present. Besides, Dr. Md. Khaled, Secratery, UGC and other high officials were present during the meeing.
